Access to Care Award

Mind Matters, PC to receive 2010 Oregon Psychiatric Association Access Award

Mind Matters, PC, an interdisciplinary group of child and adolescent mental health practitioners, will receive the Improving Access to Care Award from the Oregon Psychiatric Association on Friday, April 30th for its unique approach to providing psychiatric care for children and families across the state.  The psychiatric medical clinic, which has offices both in Beaverton and in Pendleton in Eastern Oregon, is being recognized for innovative methods of providing care for Oregonians across the state.  Mind Matters has pioneered collaborative relationships between primary care providers, including pediatricians and family practitioners, treating children and families in person and through by the use of telemedicine across the Internet allowing delivery of quality mental health treatment to Oregonian families in both urban and rural regions.

Since 2001, Mind Matters has become the largest private practice child mental health provider organization in Oregon.  Through innovative working relationships they have succeeded in combining the unique expertise of child psychiatrists with other skilled mental health professionals, including psychologists, nurse practitioners and specialized counselors in an effective joint model which allows skilled specialists to provide their expertise for patient families in a cost effective fashion.     In March 2009, the group expanded into Eastern Oregon with the opening of a Pendleton office.   Mind Matters now also provides “the Green Alternative” across the state utilizing telemedicine for assessment, therapy and computerized monitoring for families who would have difficulty traveling long distances from rural Oregon at great cost in time and fuel.

In the words of Oregon Psychiatric Association President, Dr. Tom Hansen, “I can’t think of a program more in keeping with the spirit of the OPA Access Award. “  The recognition ceremony at their Beaverton office will bring together many supporters, referring physicians, members of local businesses and elected officials.  Robert A. George, MD and David O. Conant-Norville, MD, founding members of the clinic, will receive the OPA award, which is given annually to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to improving access to psychiatric services in Oregon.
