Kate Talbert earned her Master of Science in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University in Virgina and completed undergraduate studies at Northern Arizona University. Kate has lived and practiced in the Portland area since 2007.

Kate began her career in community mental health, working with children, teens, and families, including youth involved in foster care and juvenile justice systems. Since joining Mind Matters in 2013, she has focused her practice on teens and adults and has long facilitated a support group for high school girls.

Kate’s approach is warm, collaborative, and compassionate. She integrates empathy and humor while drawing from evidence-based models including Internal Family Systems (IFS). She is Level 1 trained in IFS and is especially passionate about helping clients develop greater self-compassion and understanding of their inner world to support meaningful change. Kate values the therapeutic relationship as a unique and powerful space for healing and growth.

Kate works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD and neurodivergence, trauma, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, parenting stress, health concerns, and life transitions. She is affirming and experienced in working with the LGBTQ+ community.

Outside of work, Kate enjoys being in nature, exercising, traveling, cooking, reading, being creative, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog.
